DESE Data for HB
Every year the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) publishes district and school "report cards" for every district in the state. This year, the report has been updated to be an online interactive report card.  For families who prefer to receive a hard copy of the report, DESE will make a printable version of the report available in spring of 2019.

A state-created flyer with general information about the report is available here.
A notification cover letter is available here.
The Hawthorne Brook report card is available here.

HB Art Show
March is Youth Art Month. To celebrate HB has student artwork on display at the Townsend Public Library. The show will run from March 6th through March 29th in the Meeting Hall. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to come celebrate the arts and see the artistic talents of many of our students.

STEAM Day
The rescheduled date for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the arts, and Math) Day is Monday, March 18th. Because of the snow day, a few presenters are unable to make the new day. Anyone who would like to participate should contact Ms. Audette at raudette@nmrsd.org as soon as possible. We are trying to get as many presentations as possible to make a full day with a lot of diversity.

From the Health Office
In compliance with MGL Chapter 71, Sections 96 and 97, the HB school nurse will be conducting verbal screening of all students in grade 7 related to the use of alcohol, marijuana and other substances using the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program. The goal of this program is to let students know that school staff is available to reinforce healthy decisions and to assist them in obtaining support if needed for substance use-related issues.

This screening will occur on March 20th and March 25th (if needed). Students will be bringing home information on this screening along with a parent opt-out form on the back. If you would like to opt-out your child, please fill out the form and return it to the nurse. Forms are also available on the HB website on the Health Services page. Please contact the nurse if you have any questions.

The flu is still present. Please contact your child's pediatrician if your child is experiencing flu symptoms such as an abrupt onset of fever, chills, body ache, headache, cough, or chest discomfort. Also, please contact the absent line at (978) 597-5261 or the main line at (978) 597-6914 and let us know if your child is home with a documented flu or flu-like illness.

HB CrossFit Kids Program
The HB CrossFit Kids program is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes begin promptly at 7:30AM and will run until the start of the school day (7:55AM).

What is CrossFit Kids?
CrossFit Kids combines gymnastics, body-weight calisthenics, and weightlifting elements to develop capacity across 10 General Physical Skills, with additional focus on elements that encourage bone density and balance, and coordination development. Children have a great opportunity to maximize their physical skills when exposed to this stimulus during years of peak development, and the elements are combined to keep children engaged and entertained while teaching them proper movement mechanics and creating a broad athletic foundation. For CrossFit Kids, it is imperative to pair fitness and fun, thus creating a lifelong love of health and fitness for our children.
If your child is interested in joining us please email Heidi Delaney  hdelaney@nmrsd.org with your child’s name and grade. Feel free to email me with any questions as well.
